Move over Dr Dukan and Lighterlife, there’s a new diet in town and celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston and Kirsten Dunst are giving it their full approval, with the results speaking for themselves. The alkaline diet works on the premise that our bodies need to be at a certain level of pH balance and many factors can influence this, the main one being our diets. By eating the right alkalising foods our bodies become mineral rich, our lymph nodes function more effectively and fat levels are kept down. If you eat acid inducing foods the body has to work that much harder to protect itself from the harsh acid and therefore functions less well. Foods to eat are plenty of cooked greens and vegetables, salads, citrus fruits, beans and pulses, oily fish and sweet potatoes. Food to avoid include sugar, fat, red meat, processed foods, coffee, chocolate and most fruit apart from citrus.
Before sticking to her alkaline diet, Gwyneth Paltrow said she was bony on the top and a bit heavy on the bottom. This, however, changed when she underwent rigorous training sessions and swapped her eating habits to the alkaline diet. Her diet now consists of coconut water, raw almonds, and juices amongst other alkalising foods. She avoids food such as pasta, bread, and potatoes, anything that has a high in carbs and acid content. In an interview in the May cover of Self magazine, Gwyneth says that she never thought she’d be “considered to have a good body.” But now even Gwyneth herself recognizes the transformation she has undergone as she says, “I saw a shot of myself in Barbados and was, like, all my hard work paid off.”
We all know Jennifer Aniston as Rachel from Friends but now we also know that she sticks to a low-carb, high protein alkaline diet. She avoids processed foods and meat and she consumes plenty of vegetables and fruits throughout the day. Jennifer makes sure that she eats balanced meals that are highly alkalising and cleansing and she works out regularly. Jennifer has recently appeared in several films where her bikini clad body has been on show so the diet is obviously working well for her and for a woman in her early forties, she has never looked better.
Kirsten Dunst recently won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes festival and she looked absolutely gorgeous. So what was her secret? A strict alkaline diet of 70% alkalising foods and 30% acidic foods. Kirsten avoids all processed foods and instead eats a diet of fruit, vegetables, soya, and plenty of green tea. She compliments her diet regime with an hour and a half of exercise, four days a week. She includes includes jogging, swimming and weight lifting in her exercise routines. Anyone embarking on a new diet should seek medical advice before doing so.
