Halloween Baby Costumes: A Few Basic Rules

If you have been looking for a nice Halloween costume for your baby, you must have noticed the huge amount of distasteful Halloween baby costumes that are being sold both in stores and online.

As cool and original as a costume like that may be, there are parents who should learn to distiguish between vulgarity and fun.

However, this should not stop you from choosing a costume that will make your little ones stand out from the crowd. After all, it’s Halloween! Choosing or, why not, making a Halloween costume can also be a great opportunity for you to spend some quality time with your family. Here are some tips to help you make sure that the whole experience is fun and unforgettable:

• Some Funky Ideas

Halloween costumes are not meant to be elegant or sophisticated, so feel free to go overboard. If you have a baby girl, it would be a nice idea to dress her up like a fairy, a princess, a belly dancer, a strawberry or a bee. If your princess is old enough to choose her own costume, let her decide, otherwise I suggest you play safe and opt for a cartoon character’s costume, such as a Powerpuff Girl, Wilma Flintstone (Fred Flintstone’s wife), Lisa Simpson from The Simpsons (don’t worry about the star-shaped hair, most toy stores and supermarkets sell wigs that will make your little girl look just like Lisa, just less yellow) or Barbie. Depending on your child’s personality, you can pick out a pretty look – a princess or something like that, or a scary look such as a skeleton. If your baby boy loves animals, make sure you pick a funky animal costume like this one:

• The Importance of Comfort

Whatever costume you choose, it should be easy to put on and take off, whether your baby is potty-trained or not. This will reduce chances of having your party ruined by an ‘accident.’ Avoid anything too heavy for a baby. Butterfly wings, for example, are beautiful and light and they can be attached to a simple black top and leggings.

• Don’t Break the Bank

You don’t need an expensive costume to have fun on Halloween. Go for something affordable. You can even make one if you are a DIY kind of parent.
