The Great British Bake-Off may have moved from the BBC over to Channel 4 but it shows no sign of losing fans, as sales of stand mixers increase.
If you have been inspired by the reality baking programme and want to try your hand at making stroopwafels then here are the nine best stand mixers for you to get your GBBO on.
George Home Stand Hand Mixer – £24
With a 2.2L metal bowl, which is large enough for a family of four, you get 2 beaters for whisking eggs and cream, and 2 dough hooks for kneading and mixing dough. Fantastic value for money.
Excelvan Food Stand Mixer – £69.99
With a beater and dough hook made from aluminium, this 3-in-1 stand mixer also comes with a stainless steel whisk. Perfect for cake batters, brad or pizza dough, sauces, meringues, fudge or even potatoes, this takes all the hard work out of beating, whisking or kneading.
Andrew James Electric Stand Mixer – £85
You have to assemble this stand mixer but one you have you’ll find it is brilliant at beating, whisking and kneading. A pretty basic model but does what it says on the tin rather well.
Swan Retro Stand Mixer – £134.00
If looks as well as quality are important to you then get a look at this retro stand mixer from Swan. It comes in practically every colour you can imagine, and 3 handy attachments including an aluminium dough hook, stainless steel beater and whisk. There are 8 speeds and a planetary action which helps any beater or whisk scoop up mixture from the sides of the bowl.
Kenwood KM337 Classic Chef – £249.99
This is a great price for a Kenwood Chef, and this one includes the K-beater, a balloon whisk and a dough hook for bread-making. It also features a planetary action and a variable speed setting. We love the extras that you can buy that go with this stand mixer, including a food processor, blender and ice cream maker, which all attach easily to the top of the mixer.
Sage by Heston Blumenthal Bakery Boss Silver, Brushed Metal – £300
A few years ago Heston Blumenthal released a series of kitchen gadgets and this one has proved to be the most popular. You get lovely little touches with this machine, such as a light under the mixer head so you can see what you are beating in the bowl, a tilt-back and lock down function so that you can add ingredients as you beat, and the machine also has an automatic sensor that can tell whether a batter is light or heavy and adjusts accordingly. There’s also the scraper beater which ensures you get all the mixture from the bowl.
Kenwood kMix KMX050 – £378.99
This stand mixer is available in lots of different colours and has a modern look about it. There’s a large bowl of 5L and 8 speed settings with an electronic sensor that keeps a consistent beating action going. We love the see-through mixing bowl and splash guard but the best feature is the fold setting, which is a gentle action for softly beating without losing air from the batter.
Kenwood KVC7300S Chef Titanium Kitchen Machine – £500
You get a nice big bowl with this that holds nearly 5 litres, and it comes with a planetary mix action that works even with heavy loads. You get the famous K-beater, a stainless steel spiral dough hook and a stainless steel whisk. There’s also a touch sense in bowl illumination for absolute control over the mixing process.
Kitchenaid Artisan Stand Mixer – £550
A heavy beast of a stand mixer here but it will mix, beat, whisk or knead with no problem at all, whatever you throw at it. Super-fast whisking and kneading action which is great if you are in a hurry or have lots to bake. Available in lots of different colours too, but it does weigh over 10kg so you might want to leaveit out on the kitchen work top.
