When Kim Kardashian showcased a lesson in contouring, she nearly did break the internet.
What is contouring?
Contouring is the art of using make-up to enhance your natural features.
Many celebrities are fans of contouring, but it was Kim Kardashian that put contouring firmly on the map, when she uploaded her tutorial. The lesson went viral as her followers and fans tried to emulate the reality star’s make-up.
Contouring is now so popular that make-up brands such as MAC Cosmetics, and even pharmaceutical companies, such as Superdrug.com and Boots.com, have launched their own contouring kits.
Estée Lauder’s New Contouring Kit
Contouring kits are nothing new to the beauty industry, but now renowned make-up and skin care expert Estée Lauder has launched a kit with a difference.
The New Dimension range claims to contour the face from within, as it flatters the skin by reflecting the best facial features. The range is not available as yet, but will include a serum – New Dimension Shape + Fill Expert Serum – and an Expert Liquid Tape.
Eva Mendes launches New Dimension Range
The new contouring range will launch globally in July and in the UK in September, and fronting the collection of products is Hollywood actress Eva Mendes.
41 year-old Eva gave birth to her first child with partner Ryan Gosling seven months ago, and was chosen by Estée Lauder because she is “aspirational and real at the same time”, so says the brands global brand president Jane Hertzmark Hudis.
Eva says about the products:
“When you’re on a red carpet, you’re photographed from every angle and you can’t control that. But if you have products you love, once you go out there, you don’t worry as much. It’s a confidence booster,” she said.
“I love the idea of a skincare routine and ritual. It grounds me no matter where I am. And obviously I love results. You feel the instant activation.”
How do the New Dimension contouring products work?
The two products designed to suit women of all ages. “It could be for a 25-year-old in Korea, a 40-year-old in the United States or a 35-year-old in Europe,” Hudis told WWD.
Dr. Nadine Pernodet, vice president of skin biology and bio actives for the Estée Lauder Companies, explains how the products work:
“New dimension improves both visible volume and structure.”
The serum works in three different ways:
- adding volume – thanks to the hyaluronic acid, lipids and fillagrin
- additional structure – which is due to a plumping pro-collagen complex
- definition – by boosting elastin and fibronectin
There is also the Liquid Tape product, which works in a similar way to the face tape used by stars on the red carpet, to give their features a little ‘lift’ behind the ears.
The liquid tape has ingredients that act like tape and tighten the skin to provide a quick lift.
New Dimension – new attitude to make-up
The new contouring products were devised to reflect society’s new attitude to make-up and skincare.
“We’re taking so many pictures, we’ve become so visually driven,” Hudis says “We instinctively know our very best angle, for facial structure and volume. Make-up is all about transformations, so why not skincare?”
New Dimension will launch globally beginning July 2015.
