Season 18 of DWTS was announced on ‘Good Morning America’ yesterday and two of the competitors already know how to secure the top prize as they are Winter Olympic champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White. The pair bagged the gold in the figure skating in Sochi last month and have returned to see if they can do the same in the dance competition, although they won’t be paired with each other.
The ABC dancing competition revealed that Davis will be matched with maverick DWTS professional Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who is returning after a two year absence, and White is paired with pro dancer Sharna Burgess.
As for the rest of the DWTS cast, check them out:
Amy Purdy: We have another top notch athlete here in Paralympic star Amy Purdy. The double amputee lost both her legs to meningitis but despite this has become a top-ranked snowboarder. She is paired with DWTS pro and season winner Derek Hough.
Diana Nyad: We’ve not sure whether her prowess in the water will stand her in good stead for the dance floor, but this plucky 64-year-old was the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without a protective cage, so we’re sure nothing is gonna faze her. Paired with pro partner Henry Byalikov.
Sean Avery: The former pro hockey player and now model, Sean Avery certainly won’t find the dance floor too slippery for his liking. He is swapping his skates for dancing shoes and pairing up with pro partner Karina Smirnoff.
Candace Cameron Bure: The rumors were confirmed yesterday as it was announced that the former “Full House” actress would be appearing on this season’s “DWTS’. She will be paired with pro dancer Mark Ballas.
NeNe Leakes: “Real Housewives of Atlanta’s” was also rumored to be appearing on the show and the gossip mills were correct! NeNe Leakes is partnered with Tony Dovolani.
Danica McKellar: Wonder Years star and math whiz told USA TODAY. “I love challenges … I love sparkly outfits. Saying I’m excited is an understatement. I’m thrilled.” She took ballet when she was small but has recently started Pilates to get her body ready for rehearsals. McKellar is paired with pro partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy.
Drew Carey: Stand-up comic and “The Price Is Right” host Drew Carey has one hope this season and that is that he is not the first one to be voted off. He’ll be showing off his dance moves with pro partner Cheryl Burke.
Cody Simpson: Singing star Cody Simpson is the youngest competitor at 17 in this season’s lineup so he may be busting out some new street moves. The Australian pop star shares the same manager as Justin Beiber and is paired with new pro dancer Witney Carson.
James Maslow: Another singer now, you can catch James Maslow on the Nickelodeon show “Big Time Rush.” The young 23-year-old is paired off with Peta Murgatroyd.
Billy Dee Williams: From the youngest to the oldest contestant now, the 76 year old singer and actor is best known for his role as Lando Calrissian in “Star Wars” and is partnered up with pro dancer Emma Slater.
These 12 aren’t the only new faces this season. Tom Bergeron’s co-host Brooke Burke-Charvet was fired and replaced by Fox Sports’ Erin Andrews and there is a new bandleader Ray Chew as Harold Wheeler and his gang get the heave ho.
The 18th season of “DWTS” will premiere on ABC on March 17.
