Cristiano Ronaldo underwear range poses threat to David Beckham brand

We are all well used by now to seeing images of a scantily clad David Beckham, posing in his undies, but he is not the only footballer who thinks he could sell a pair of pants. Cristiano Ronaldo is also dipping his toe into the world of fashion, and he has launched his very own brand – CR7.

The Real Madrid player established his brand with the help of the Danish underwear manufacturers – JBS Textile Group. And Ronaldo told his fans that it was important to him that his brand stood for quality and great design:

“The companies that I choose to work with need to be fashion oriented and of the highest quality to be able to deliver a superior product to my fans. In JBS I have found a collaborator who designs and produces products of the highest quality and have a strong heritage of great design.”

Portuguese footballer Ronaldo’s collection features underwear and socks, and to make sure all of his fans are catered for, there are also four different lines within the brand: Basic, Luxury, Fashion, and Boys.

Ronaldo decided to launch the new campaign for his underwear range in Madrid, and posed for photographers beside a giant poster of himself, in which he donned a pair from his collection.

And leaving nothing to chance, the footballer collaborated with New York based designer Richard Chai, who is renowned within the fashion industry for working with other international brands, such as Donna Karan and Marc Jacobs. Chai helped to create the design for Ronaldo’s collection, and was an important influence on the star’s choice of styles, and the footballing star was pleased to have him onboard:

“Fashion and design are two passions of mine and I have wanted to launch my own brand for a long time. Working on this collection alongside Richard has given me a great creative outlet and I have loved every part of collaborating on the range, from selecting the colours and designs to testing the styles and fits myself,” he said. “I am very proud that the collection is launching worldwide today.”


So will his collection be in direct competition with Beckham’s brand for high street retailer H&M? We definitely think so. Beckham is a now a global brand, thanks mainly to his wife, ex Spice Girls singer Victoria. But Ronaldo is equally as well known across the world, and has a great number of fans, from his career at Real Madrid, playing for his national team of Portugal, and of course, his many Manchester United followers.

His brand is named CR7 after his initials and the number seven shirt he famously took from David Beckham, when he joined Man United.

This is not the first time Ronaldo has posed for an underwear collection, he was previously the face of Armani.


The 28 year-old looked happy as he smouldered next to his giant poster, and gave reporters the thumbs up. He decided not to model a pair from his range however, much to the disappointment of his female fans, and rocked up in a smart white shirt and jeans for the press launch.
