Claudia Schiffer has been busy recently, and she is now ready to reveal the fruits of her labour. Her brand new, and very first we might add, cashmere collection is now ready to buy, and we’re pretty impressed.
Schiffer said that cashmere was a natural choice as: “I’ve always loved cashmere and I’m always on the lookout for great casual cashmere tops to wear with jeans for every day.”
The 46 year-old model turned fashion designer from Germany has had an incredible career on catwalks across the globe. Her latest venture into designing sweaters however, has been a burning ambition from her youth.
“It’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was a teenager, doodling dresses and jumpers at home,” she says.
Schiffer got her wish when esteemed cashmere company TSE (pronounced ‘SAY’) got in touch and she has now designed a collection of some 40 pieces, all with her personal touches.
TSE use only the finest high-quality cashmere yarns from Italy and are well-known for taking a contemporary approach to fashion with multi-ply cashmere and cashmere-blend yarns.
Schiffer spoke about her collaborating with TSE: “TSE is the perfect partner for me to work with as they can translate my vision of effortless clothes for casual chic living into a reality.”
The collection is an eclectic mix of office staples and bright weekend pieces. Muted shades compete with colour popping Scandinavian hues. There are slim-fitting turtleneck jumpers, baggy-knit pullovers, longline cardigans, ponchos, and short-sleeved tops.
Prices start from a very reasonable £219 and go up to around £469.
Schiffer states she got her inspiration from memories as a teenager, borrowing her parent’s cashmere sweaters: “I still have one from my father, which looks new because it’s so luxurious.”
She also uses her own extensive wardrobe of designer knitwear in designing her new collection, although she prefers vintage to labels:
“Yes, but my favorite are the vintage hand-knit arans that I have collected over the years. I love to wear a traditional Guernsey (fisherman sweater) over skinny jeans with high suede boots. These pieces are 30 years old but look like I bought them yesterday.”
Schiffer says that she has based her collection around the three C’s: cozy, chic, cashmere, and used a recent visit to Spain for some of her inspiration, particularly colour wise. The bright, burnt oranges, blood red sunsets, muted caramels and turquoise blues feature in many of her designs.
She told Vogue.com that when she was designing her collection she always kept denim in mind, as she pictures all of her items with jeans:
“I’ll layer up a fine-rib roll-neck under a Fair Isle yoke sweater with skinny jeans, then add a pair of suede boots. And instead of a coat, I’ll thrown on a cozy cashmere poncho.”
