Christmas Activities with the Kids

Christmas is one of the biggest family oriented times of year. This is also one of the best times for parents to spend some quality time with their kids and do something fun together, since during this time parents usually get a few consecutive days off work. There are several activities that can be done to involve the entire family, including cooking. We decided to share with you a few ideas of things that can be cooked or food that can be decorated with your kids.

One of the most popular things to do is create cookies to leave with Santa. These have been coined to be chocolate chip cookies, but they can be any type of cookie your kids like. If you are looking to decorate the cookies then sugar cookies are the better option. These are universal cookies that are strong enough to hold icing and other decorations and, seeing as kids love expressive their artistic selves, decorating cookies is a great way to let them create something beautiful with their own hands. Another activity that you will enjoy doing with your children is the gingerbread men.

Today these hand sized cookies can be bought ready to decorate. I usually buy a variety pack of icing and sprinkles to avoid turning the kitchen into a battlefield. Because of the size of the cookie they are able to decorate them easy. To really make it fun you can have the kids make their cookies look like their sibling or another child in the room. And, if your Christmas tree looks a bit plain, you could get your kids to make macaroni noodles to decorate the tree. They can take the dry noodles and paint them with spots, stripes; plaid shapes, what ever they want, then let them string them up and hang them on the tree. Rest assured that they will love it! There are other activities that can be done like gingerbread houses, or marshmallow Santa’s. The internet is a great place to gather ideas.

The purpose is to take advantage of the time that you have with your kids and have fun. After all, Christmas is an excellent occasion for you to do things you wouldn’t normally do, like painting noodles and baking cookies and, since it occurs only once a year, I suggest you take advantage of it and plan all your activities in advance.
