We all look to celebrities to see where the fashion trends are heading this season and white has featured a lot recently. Perhaps it is the knock on effect from the Royal Wedding, all still familiar in our minds with the stunning and rare sight of a bridesmaid wearing white, such as Pippa Middleton. Other celebrities however have been seen out and about in white frocks.
Penelope Cruz wore a beautiful white dress to the premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean, Desperate Housewives star, Eva Longeria wore a pretty white cocktail dress to a friends lavish party in LA and Cat Deeley is often seen in white to accentuate her tan. So how can we get the celebrity look and what do we need to be aware of when wearing white?
White clothes can make you look trashy and cheap, especially if you have too much of a tan or with lots of gold jewellery. It also does not suit some skin colours, particularly pale-ish hues, making you look washed out and ill. White is definitely not a practical colour to wear and certainly high maintenance to keep clean if you have children or are going to a barbecue, things could get messy so keep some wet wipes in your purse for accidental spills.
White is also not very flattering on some body shapes as black is said to slim you down, white can be said to enlarge certain features. If you have an athletic shaped body with long legs however, white is perfect for you, think Liz Hurley in her trade mark white jeans. But even shorter ladies look stunning in white.
Cheryl Cole wore a beautiful white dress recently in LA whilst she was working on the American X factor, very similar to the Pippa Middleton bridesmaid dress. And talking again of the Royal Wedding, the trend this season seems to be teaming white with cream lace, taking blocks of each colour to create a modern twist on a vintage look.
