“I believe that when a man wears an article that I manufacture, his self-respect is increased because he knows that it is made by an honest manufacturer, who is honest with his employees” Hamilton Carhartt
For anyone who wants a pair of decent, hard-wearing jeans, or apparel that will see them through the toughest of jobs using the best quality material, you need look no further. The Carhartt company was created in 1889 by its founder Hamilton Carhartt, who was born in 1855 in Macedon Lock, New York. He talked to several railroad engineers to create an overall garment specifically for the railroad worker which had never been made before. Hamilton Carhartt started with only 4 sewing machines and about 5 employees and his first products manufactured were overalls in duck and denim fabrics. He travelled from town to town and by visiting each railroad division, managed to establish himself in the overall business. With entrepreneurial vision and determination, Hamilton Carhartt established a brand that has stood the test of time.
Although Hamilton Carhartt passed away in 1937 at the age of 82, his company still remains a family owned business which is totally committed to providing Best-in-Class clothing for the active worker.
