Caitlyn Jenner took to Instagram this week to announce the launch of her new lipstick, with the help of MAC cosmetics.
Called ‘Finally Free’, the creamy nude rose lipstick will be available from April 7 and all the proceeds will go to the MAC AIDS Fund Transgender Initiative. The lipstick will only be sold online and be a limited edition.
Caitlyn spoke to MAC about her incredible last nine months:
“The last nine months have been the most fascinating of my life, by far. I worried for 50 years, if I ever did this, what would the reaction be? I never, in my wildest dreams, ever thought it would be as positive for me as it has been.”
She went on to explain the reason behind the lipstick and why she chose MAC to form the partnership with:
“MAC was the first to come to me, and a company, I realized, would really make a big commitment, and I was wondering if they were interested in doing something specifically geared toward trans issues because we need funding.”
The name ‘Finally Free’ was chosen by Caitlyn simply because is signifies who she is now.
“I wanted a name that I use, and which represents the community. This is who I am: Finally Free.”
As for the colour, Caitlyn decided on one that could be worn every day and by many women. Not just for a special occasion but a lipstick that would cover all bases.
“I wanted a lipstick that would be universal, suited to more people, and was an everyday lipstick, not just a high-glam, once-in-a-while kind of lipstick. I like a little colour on my lips, not a lot during the day. And this rosy nude is the colour I’ve gone to.”
She also had a very business-like head on when she picked the colour.
“To be honest, I want people to use it every day so they have to buy more. I want to raise a lot of money. It’s very simple.”
All of the money from the sales of the lipstick will go to the MAC AIDS Fund Transgender Initiative which sets about changing the livings of transgender people.
Caitlyn said that her wish for MAC to get involved came from their global reach as a company that could influence people within the business market.
She feels her role is important as a transgender person because she is photographed every day and can talk to the general public about trans issues.
MAC’s core principle is ALL AGES, ALL RACES, ALL SEXES. They have always been involved in the transgender community, since their founding in 1987, in particular the HIV/AIDS community.
As of the current date, the MAC AIDS Fund has donated more than 24 million dollars to support HIV prevention, care and treatment.
They have also given their voice to end the stigma and discrimination of the LGBTQ community.
This has been via grant-giving to organizations like the Los Angeles LGBT Center and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center in New York City.
In a statement on their website, MAC said they were ‘proud to partner with Caitlyn Jenner in order to increase its support of these vital programs’.
