Bridget Jones is Back!

Fans of the hugely successful film ‘Bridget Jones Diary’ will have been waiting seven years for the third installment but now we can reveal that Renee Zellweger is returning to reprise her role as novelist Helen Fielding is currently finishing a third book in the series. Producers Working Title confirmed the news that Renee will be starring in the film but it is not known whether Hugh Grant or Colin Firth will be returning, especially as Firth is now as Oscar winner. Renee famously piled on the pounds to play Bridget in the first two films, Bridget Jones’s Diary in 2001 and Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason in 2004. This time however it is thought she may use a fat suit as she found the effect of putting on so much weight worrying, saying in 2007, “I had a panic attack with all the specialists talking about how bad this is for you long-term, putting on that much weight in short periods of time.”

Colin Firth, although not yet connected to the third film has been letting some possible plot secrets slip out revealing on U.S. programme Access Hollywood, “Bridget and Mark can’t have children, I think that’s the way it goes on. So then she makes the huge mistake of going back to Daniel Cleaver (played by Hugh Grant) for long enough to get pregnant. I think he dumps her, and guess who comes back to rescue her?” For her role in Bridget Jones’s Diary and the sequel The Edge of Reason, Miss Zellweger deliberately piled on the pounds by gorging on pizza, doughnuts and beer.

At the time, she said: “One doughnut does not do a thing. You’ve got to eat 20 a day for at least five weeks to get results.” The last time Renee filmed a Bridget film, she lost the weight she put on within weeks of finishing, showing off a size-zero figure. Thought to follow a micro-biotic diet of lean fish, rice and vegetables she also endures gruelling two-hour daily workouts with a personal trainer. Famously private about her weight loss however she was reported to have said, “It saddens me every day when people come up and say, ‘OK, how did you lose that weight?’ I can’t speak about it because I am not an authority on weight loss. I am just not. I am not challenged with a medical situation that’s weight-related and that I need to pay attention to.” I’m sure true fans are not bothered about her size or weight, just a great story plot and good acting, as we have come to expect from this talented actress.
