Beyoncé Reveals Pregnancy at MTV Video Music Awards

Beyoncé made a surprise announcement at the MTV Video Awards last night as she told the audience that she was expecting her first child. The singer, who is married to rapper Jay-Z, held her growing bump tenderly as she walked down the red carpet towards the assembled press, told them “I have a surprise!” Wearing a beautiful orange gown by Lanvin, she went on to perform an energetic routine to rapturous applause and a standing ovation. She had already watched her husband perform his new single ‘Otis’ with Kanye West before giving her own performance in a sparkly purple blazer and black pants by Dolce & Gabbana. After singing ‘Love On Top’ she ripped open her blazer to reveal her baby bump where cameras then showed Jay-Z smiling broadly and Kanye patting his friend on the back.

The singer has had an amazing year so far, headlining at Glastonbury this summer in which she stole the show, she also released another hit album – 4. In an interview with Piers Morgan back in June of this year, she hinted that she may be ready to settle down and start a family. “I always said I was going to have a baby at 30. I’m 29 now. But I also said I was going to retire at 30. So I don’t know. I am not retiring, I tell you.” And speaking to In Style magazine she took the rumours further, “When you’re young – 18 or 19 – you have the energy and drive. That’s the time to work as hard as you can. Now I’m a woman, and because I gave it my all, I can focus on my marriage. I can decide I want to have kids. I can be the mother I want to be and dedicate myself to my children.”

Ex Destiny Child band mate Kelly Rowlands has known for a while that the singer is pregnant and said “I think she’ll be an incredible mother. She’s always been motherly. I think that takes after so many traits from her mother. I just think it’s going to be so natural for her. It’s natural for her now. I can’t believe this to this day.”
