Not content with stealing the show at Glastonbury and winning everyone’s hearts with her unexpected pregnancy news, Beyonce is now unveiling her new perfume to the world, named Pulse. The fragrance is based around her favourite flower – the orchid and is said to be an exciting blend that emulates the energy and excitement she feels when she performs on stage. “Women always tell me that my music makes them feel strong and confident, and Pulse is about finding that inner power. Pulse represents the woman I am on stage. When I think about excitement, it makes me think about my heart racing and a pulsating beat—it’s my stage persona.” The perfume, which is made in collaboration with Coty, features citrus and gourmand accords. The top notes are sparkling pear blossom, frozen bergamot and an accord of Blue Curacao liqueur. The middle notes feature Bluebird orchid, which is used for the first time used in a fragrance. There are also notes of delicate peony and intensive midnight blooming jasmine. The base notes are warm, sensual and smooth, made with Madagascar vanilla, musk and precious woods.
Even the bottle is distinctive, made to look as a faceted diamond which is blue and looks as though it is upside down and enclosed in a holographic box. The inspiration for the bottle lid was taken from one of Beyonce’s own stage costumes. Beyonce says that her fragrances are made to wear at any time, “I love the idea of a signature scent that lets a woman leave her mark wherever she goes, so I always try to make my scents appropriate for any occasion.” The man who helped create her new scent is Bruno Jovanovic and Beyonce worked with Jake Nava again to shoot the promotional video. He had previously shot her ‘Single Ladies’ video. Pulse will hit the stores in September.
