MAC has collaborations with everyone from Daphne Guinness, Johnny Weir, Iris Apfel to Miss Piggy and now style icon and singer Beth Ditto is the latest celebrity to join the cosmetics company. Unfortunately we cannot see the collection until June of this year but MAC have kindly released this promo picture to get us interested, not that we weren’t anyway.
The ultra quirky photograph looks like it got its’ inspiration from a still from the film Alice in Wonderland so, as far as we can guess, if the range is anything like this, it will be chock full of bright spring colours and heavy black eye liners. Perhaps a little sparkle to boot. Evidently MAC and Beth have a past history. She performed at New York Citys’ Soho neighbourhood’s MAC store last September for Fashion’s Night Out, which cemented it being one of the top spots on everyone’s FNO hit list.
It appears that Beth is a huge fan of all things fashion as yesterday she was spotted sitting in the front row at Jean Paul Gaultier’s couture show in Paris, the one that had an Amy Winehouse theme. And Gaultier is a true fan of Beths, as he firmly placed the plus-size singer on his runway in 2010. The 30-year-old singer is staying in Paris to attend a dinner tonight in which she will celebrate the announcement.
Reports are that the dinner Ditto is attending tonight is the Gala Sidaction diner de la Mode as a guest of Estée Lauder, who are the parent company of MAC. MAC are supposedly donating 190,000 euros ($246,620) to Sidaction, which continues their long tradition of supporting AIDS charities. And as MAC have finally got themselves a Twitter account, we will finally be able to keep up with events and the final touches to the collaboration by going to @MACcosmetics.
Beth shot to fame in the fashion industry as the front woman of the band ‘The Gossip’ frontwoman when she was chosen to cover the first edition of Love magazine. Editor-in-Chief Katie Grand said to the press that the publication would be ‘very curvy’ and that ‘no one is a sample size in the whole issue’, and with Miss Ditto on the cover she was certainly true to her word. In her editor’s letter, Katie wrote, “She says the wrong things.
She looks the wrong way. Isn’t it confounding and amazing to have an iconic figure…who doesn’t have a 25-inch waist? She is happy with who she is and the way she is.” And it looks like Mac agree with these sentiments.
