The Best Make-up Products to Conceal Rosacea

Celebrity makeup artist Sarah Jagger takes part in a Experience My Rosacea event in London, 20 April 2016.

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Symptoms include a flushed complexion and also lesions that look like acne.  Doctors do not know why people get rosacea and currently there is no magical cure. There are treatments however, that reduce the symptoms of rosacea; these usually consist of a topical cream for the redness and an oral anti-biotic to help control the rash.

Unfortunately this treatment typically takes a few months to kick in and start working.

So what do you do if you are suffering from red patches over your face but you still need to go out and work, socialise and get on with your life?

We believe in ‘covering up and carrying on!’ Which is why we have put together a list of the best concealing products to use when you are suffering from rosacea.

You’ll notice that many of these products have a green or yellow tint, this is because these colours naturally correct the redness as they are on the opposite of the colour spectrum from each other.

Concealing your rosacea should be a multi-step affair; start off with a good primer, then target any really bad patches with a concealer stick, move onto the foundation for more even coverage and then finish off with the yellow correcting powder.

Here are our recommendations for the best rosacea concealing products:

Smashbox Photo Finish Correcting Primer, Green - £25.50

Many people don’t believe in a primer but if you have a skin condition you really need one as it holds the rest of your make-up in place for the rest of the day. This is formulated for those with red skin tones as it is a green colour so it balances the redness on your face. It is lightweight and if you only have a little redness you might find that using just this product is enough to control it.

gloMinerals Redness Relief Powder - £21.00

Your final touches should be made with this colour correcting mineral powder, which comes in a yellow tint and works to minimise any last signs of redness that the other products have not managed to cover. It is a loose powder that you can easily dab over affected areas, and ingredients include Honeysuckle, Zinc Oxide and Green Tea Extract which all help to reduce inflammation.
