Adele has been targeted by a number of sick internet trolls who have posted abusive messages on Twitter, after they found out that she had given birth to a son on Friday night. Adele, who gave birth to her first child with boyfriend Simon Konecki on Friday night, found herself to be the target of sick individuals who posted nasty messages about her and her newborn son. One such message, by a user who called herself Vanessa Bieber, wrote, just minutes after the birth: ‘Aw Adele gave birth to a baby. Is it fat and handicapped lol? Just murder it already lol.’ Another posted this message: ‘I’ll go see her in the UK and kill her’, while another retweeted the message, adding: ‘And kill her baby.’
The Rolling In The Deep singer had other sick messages posted about the birth of her son, with many saying that she would have more material to write about if she suffered from post-natal depression, or if her son actually died. Others posted that they had not realised Adele was pregnant because she is overweight. This is not the first time a celebrity had been targeted for abuse on social media sites such as Twitter. Gary Barlow and his wife were the subjects of a campaign of abuse from people after they suffered the loss of their baby girl as a still birth. Many people criticised the take That lead singer and song writer for his appearance in the London 2012 Olympics, saying that he had put money before his family.
And Olympic athlete and champion swimmer Tom Daley had to call the police after a Twitter user suggested his late father would have been disappointed by his performance at the London 2012 Olympics. Adele has yet to confirm the birth of her son but a source close to the couple states that she is ‘ecstatic’ by the baby’s arrival, saying: ‘Adele and Simon are ecstatic at their new arrival. She was over the moon that they were expecting their first child together.’ Her spokesman said of the reported birth: ‘We are not releasing a statement at this time. No comment.’ However, Adele’s collaborative partner Dan Wilson told the Daily Mirror she is doing well following the birth, and will focus on the birth and the new chapter of her life for her next record, which she is expected to release next year. He said: ‘Adele has never been happier. We have exchanged a couple of emails. Adele is in a good place. I am concentrating on writing as many songs as I can.’
Adele recently recorded the theme tune for the latest James Bond movie Skyfall – but will not be present at the world premiere of the film, which is set to take place in London on Tuesday night with guests including Prince Charles and Camilla, because of her new arrival. A source told The Sun: ‘Adele doesn’t want to leave her little boy’s side – it’s as simple as that. Now he’s here, she can’t bear heading out without him, even to hobnob with royalty.’
