The world’s cheapest mobile phone has gone on sale for the price of a pound, and for that price you wouldn’t expect much, but you do actually get a radio, games, alarm clock, torch, calculator and calendar. The Alcatel One Touch 232 is available on the O2 network for just £1, but you do have to buy £10 worth of calling or texting credit when you purchase the phone, however, even at this price, the phone itself is still the world’s cheapest.
It boasts a 1.5 inch colour screen, weighs 60 grams, measures 106 by 46mm and as you would expect, can handle calls and text messages, but it does not include any of the features that todays modern smartphones have.
Website PrePayMania.co.uk is selling the pay as you go mobile phone for £1 on the O2 network, and expect that it will be children, or older people who will be purchasing the mobile.
As Sophie Evans, from PrePayMania in Stoke, Staffordshire, said: “Not everyone wants the latest and most trendy phone. A lot of people just need a plain and simple mobile that allows them to make and receive calls and send text messages. The phone is just £1 and you only have to buy £10 worth of credit – but that’s good because people will want to use their phone straight away,” she added: “It’s a fairly simple phone and does all of the basics. It’s perfect for people that aren’t worried about having the best phone out there.”
The Alcatel One Touch 232 would be ideal for people who are buying a mobile for the first time in their lives, such as younger children, who want a basic, cheap phone, and do not need the worry of it going missing or being stolen at school for instance. This cheap phone is also ideal for parents to be able to keep tabs on their children and have greater control of where their kids are at certain times in the day, or if they want to know what times they need collecting from various after school activities.
The Alcatel One Touch 232 would also be a good mobile for the older generation, who despite the fact that they are getting used to new technology on a daily basis, still have problems with smartphones and all the unnecessary features that come with them. Many older people simply want a mobile that calls their friends and family, or sends texts. And as this mobile phone has nice large buttons and is quite easy to use, both children and older people should find it fairly uncomplicated to use.
The phone comes in three colours, black, red or white, and already has a sim included. All you have to do is top it up with £10 of credit and you are ready to start calling.
In our opinion, this is a great mobile for first time users, and it offers fantastic value for money.
