Getting Your Guest Room in Shape for Christmas

It’s always wonderful to have guests over for Christmas, and some of us are even blessed with guests who come annually and whose visit becomes as much of a tradition as the tree, the decorations, and the turkey. But have you considered making changes to your guest room for the holidays? Read on and find out what you can do to make your guest facilities more Christmas-ready!

Christmas guests can be a huge blessing

Decorations are, of course, step number one. Make sure they are not in the way or overly intrusive, but draping some tinsel around and maybe even using a strand of lights can really help your guests feel the Christmas spirit. A biscuit tin with some Christmassy gingerbread or a couple of mince pies can also go some way toward fulfilling some Christmas wishes, so don’t skimp on the goodies! This will help your guest feel he or she can snack as desired, which can be a point of concern for guests.

As it is winter, it can get a lot colder than usual – obviously! Why not make sure your guest has plenty of wintry blankets? You can go out and buy fleece blankets for very little money, and you can keep the blankets on the guest bed, but consider giving them as an early Christmas present. Simply fold them up tidily and tie a bow around them, then leave them out with a nice little note explaining the situation. Your guest will feel as if the blankets are a part of their home and will feel justified and happy to roll up in them if they are cold; this includes times sat out in your living room, when some guests may feel less inclined to ask for some way to feel warmer!

Stockings for your guests are a must.

A stocking is a must. Provide a stocking for every guest and, in the morning, ensure these stockings are well-stuffed. While it is not required for you to spend as much money on your guest’s presents as you do on, for example, your partner or your children, it is a good idea to spend a reasonable amount of money and help your guest feel part of the proceedings. As Christmas is such a traditionally family-oriented feast, it is important for people to feel part of the family they are spending the holiday with.

If your guest celebrates a different holiday – if, for example, they celebrate Hanukkah instead of Christmas – you could consider making some concessions. You needn’t say goodbye to all your traditions, but have a word with them and find out what you can do to help them honour their holiday without stepping all over yours – and vice versa!

With a little bit of extra effort, you can make sure your guests have a holiday that is as wonderful as your own. You’ll all be able to enjoy Christmas to the fullest of your abilities, and no doubt it will become a tradition you can all enjoy for decades to come! Happy holidays!
