Luggage allowance on flights has always been a mystery to some people especially those who are traveling for the first time and have no idea about luggage rules imposed by various airline carriers. In fact luggage restrictions have been placed in order to minimize the effect of high airline fuel rates that the carriers suffer from. Since most of them offer budget flights with incredibly low prices, it is but natural that they find means to compensate for the fuel needed to operate the planes.

There are those who are unaware of luggage allowance on flights and so become surprised when they are fined for excess baggage or suitcases. If you are going on a holiday in an international tourist destination then it would be best for you if you familiarize yourself with the luggage regulations of the airline you are planning to use. This will save you a lot of hassle and money. Here are a few suggestions:

Airlines will allow you a certain amount of weight for your carry-on or hand carry bags, so make sure that you maximize this to avoid going over luggage allowance on flights. Instead of a purse, use a traveling bag or a backpack instead. These items will let you store more of your clothing and personal accessories that you can carry on the plane. Be sure to board early as well, as this will allow you to use the overhead baggage compartments easily and prevent your carry on from crowding your space.

When packing, take only what you need and will probably use frequently during your flight. If you should pack a great deal of clothes, choose the ones that do not wrinkle easily and roll them to provide more room for storing other things. You can also avoid going over luggage allowance on flights by putting your bulky clothing in bags that can be vacuumed to save space and allow you to store more.

Remember that luggage usually weigh about 3-5lbs even if you haven’t put anything on it yet, so choose the ones that do not weigh as heavy and are made with durable materials. Going on a holiday does not mean that you can take all your clothing with you. You can always pack light and just purchase a few essentials once you get to your destination. Luggage allowance on flights does not have to be the reason why you won’t get to enjoy a well-deserved holiday.
