Top 3 Mid-Value LED HDTVs of 2012
So you are planning to bring home a HDTV! With so many types of TVs from Plasma, LCD, LED and others, how will you know which is the best for you?
There are a few considerations to take into account when you are buying HDTV. They are picture quality, sound quality, the light considerations of the room where you will place the TV, Processing speed and quality and others. Considering their rising popularity, given below are the top 3 LED HDTVs of 2012, based on their value, price, features and quality -
1. LG 55LM6700 – 55” LED 3D PASSIVE – One of the reasons for the popularity of this HDTV is its sleek design and looks.
The cabinet is nearly invisible giving you the feeling that the images on the screen are floating. The picture quality is exceptional and the clear screen is amazingly vibrant. The side view is good too but that of the high-end models is better.
What We Like –
LED Plus feature that allows local dimming and back lighting giving a contrast.
Clear side angle viewing.
Very clear Clear coat screen that prevents glare.
Bright backlighting that works well in bright rooms.
Natural and vibrant colors.
What We Don’t Like –
The glare is more than the higher end models.
Sound Quality could be better.
3D passive viewing is good but not as good as active 3D.
Price is higher than other mid value models.
2. Panasonic TC-L47ET5 – 47” Passive 3D, Viera, 1080p – The design and looks of this 3rd LED offering by Panasonic is
good with a very good side angle viewing. This is because of the design of the panel that permits light to enter but does not let it escape.
What We Like –
Excellent side angle view quality
Excellent clarity from the screen panel
Good value for the features
Manipulated backlight
In-built browser, Wi-fi, Viera Connect
Peak brightness is excellent.
What We Don’t Like –
Not as good-looking as other mid-value models.
Polarized 3D viewing is not as good as active 3D.
Colors are not as natural and vibrant as in plasma.
3. Samsung UN46ES6580FXZA – It has many top-end features and excellent viewing quality. It has active 3D quality.
Viewing features include a motion rate of 480 that gives quicker response. But the best part of this TV is the viewing quality. Menu is user-friendly and this TV has bright peak white that is good in bright rooms.
What We Like –
Good backlighting.
Good Internet choices.
Improved contrast because of micro dimming.
Improved looks.
Great 3D Viewing.
What We Don’t Like –
High price considering that this is a 4th model.
Backlight adjustment depends on room conditions.

October 26, 2012Thank you for posting this information, Joseph. I am thinking about getting a 3DTV, and this is a good starting point. I am having a Hopper DVR installed this Saturday, and I want to take advantage of its 3D pay per view offerings. Sadly, my current TV doesn’t support 3D, so I will need to get a new one. This a helpful guide, but I still need a little help. Thankfully, I work with a girl at DISH who knows practically everything there is to know about HDTVs. She’s going to go window shopping with me, and we will definitely be looking at these three models first.
