Autumn Mini break ideas
Didn’t have time for a break this summer? Not to worry, there are plenty of exciting locations to visit during the autumn and winter months, even if you are still looking for a little last-minute sunshine.

Amsterdam Canals
Autumn can be a great time of year for last-minute deals. As most people choose to go away during the summer, peak time prices apply and you can often end up spending more than you anticipated for. October and November are the best times to find a room at the last-minute. Popular months for those on a budget to get away, it’s a perfect time for getting some R&R before the festive season is upon us and the stress ensues. Check out some of our top locations for a pre-winter getaway.
Amsterdam
Many parts of Europe still enjoy sunshine late in the year and, if you are lucky, Amsterdam is one of them. The city is ablaze with cool bars and hotspots to enjoy in the evening. By day you can wander the beautiful streets, soaking up the picturesque Jordaan, the many canals running through the city centre and windmill spot in the west. Hire a bike and cycle around Vodelpark for a day, pack a picnic and enjoy a cold beer on the grass. It’s the perfect budget day out, especially if you want to save your cash and spend it on a lavish dinner in one of Amsterdam’s many delicious restaurants in the evening. If you find those in the city centre a bit too pricey, try walking another ten minutes to a further away street where prices are lower and you can sample some local Dutch delicacies. Flights are really cheap from the UK all year round and you will easily find a budget hotel especially if you look for those on the outskirts of the city. Don’t worry about being too far from the attractions; Amsterdam is fortunate enough to have a brilliant tram network which will get you around in a matter of minutes.
Croatia
If you are looking for a little autumn sun, look no further than the beautiful Croatia. With its many white sandy beaches and clear blue waters you will feel like you have jetted into paradise. You can spend and evening wandering around the Hvar harbour, where you can catch a bite for very little compared with other European destinations. Croatia still uses its own Kuna rather than the Euro and the exchange rate is slightly lower than that of the British Pound. Try some of the juiciest langoustines around, fresh from the boat along the beach front or tuck into a traditional Croatian Bean Stew in one of the many restaurants where you can try some of the town’s most traditional dishes made by local chefs. Croatia enjoys high temperatures of up to 20 degrees all the way through until November, making it the perfect destination if you are still keen to check out its many beaches. Try Stoncica beach- slightly further offshore than the more tourist filled hotspots for a tranquil experience. Situated about 6km from Vis town, Stoncica Bay is home to a gorgeous sandy bay and a spattering of small houses. There is no running water, no phone service- only rainwater cisterns, so it’s the perfect chance to go back to basics for a day.
Saint Tropez, France
For the ultimate in luxury, check out Saint Tropez in France. Autumn is the best time to visit as most of the summer crowds have gone, yet temperatures still remain in their mid 20′s. Spend a day on Plage de Pampelonne beach- a blissfully quiet spot scattered with posh boutique restaurants where diners can enjoy the freshest seafood around and some high-end cuisine influenced by numerous world cultures. It’s also a great place to celeb spot as the Cote d’Azur brings in some of the world’s flashiest celebrities looking for an idyllic holiday retreat. It’s also a great time for a post summer spa break as its home to many lavish resorts such as the La Tartane Saint Amour, which has won a number of awards for its heated outdoor pool, massage specialists and opulent treatments. When night-time comes, relax on your balcony with a glass of wine and take in Saint Tropez’s famous sunset. A perfect destination for romance, relaxation and a little peace and tranquillity.
