Game on: The best games for iPhone 5
Okay, you’ve finally managed to get your hands on a new iPhone 5, after camping outside an Apple store overnight for your handset or waiting patiently for your pre-ordered device to come knocking on your door.
So, now it’s time to have some games installed on it. With its new bigger and longer screen, the iPhone 5 is being lauded as the gamers’ phone because of its 16:9 screen which matches the ratio aspect of your HDTV, meaning games in landscape mode finally work on your phone.
With your new size iphone all ready to go, here’s our run down of some of the best games which have been optimised for iPhone 5.
Minecraft: Pocket edition
This one is just as addictive as the ubiquitous Angry Birds. If you haven’t yet discovered it, it’s the gaming version of playing with your lego bricks as a kid, with some surprises thrown in.
It’s all about building just about anything you can imagine, but there are some scary twists including the monsters which come out at night, meaning you have to build a shelter to hide. It’s been updated for the iPhone 5, adding lots of elements which originate from the PC version, including exploding creepers and chests to store your goodies in. So far, a whopping 7,610,327 people have bought the game.
Jet Pack Joyride
First released in September 2011, Jet Pack Joyride has just been updated for the iPhone 5’s bigger screen. You play as Barry Steakfries, who is a sort of friendlier version of Michael Douglas’ character in Falling Down, who snaps and goes on the rampage. This time though, rather than turning violent, Steakfries steals a jetpack and goes on the run.
You have to react to rapidly approaching obstacles before they hit. Created by Halfbrick Studios, who are also the brains behind Fruit Ninja, Jet Pack Joyride is free to download.
What’s not to love about a game that is the antithesis to the usual shoot-em-ups. Bit Monster’s Lili is a botanist vegetarian magician who travels around the mythical island of Geos collecting flowers to defend herself against the cursed spirits who inhabit paradise. She never uses violence to deal with her enemies, preferring item collection, character interaction and minigames to get achieve her goals.
Asphalt 7: Heat
This one is being recommended across all the gaming websites at the moment and is sure to keep petrol heads happy. You get to choose from 60 cars from all the world’s top manufacturers, including Lamborghini and Aston Martin, before being challenged to race in 15 different leagues on tracks set in real cities around the world.
Having featured a game for peacekeepers, we couldn’t leave those out who feel they haven’t gamed if they haven’t drawn virtual blood. You play as Sir Lancelot, in search of your love Queen Guinevere. In an unconventional twist on the usual King Arthur mythology, there are demonic monsters trying to stop you from reaching your sweetheart.
Whichever games you end up downloading to your new device, you can be rest assured they all look and play better on the bigger screen.
