And with this in mind, the NHS has launched a campaign to help smokers quit for one whole month in October. If you visit their smoke free website here, you’ll find tons of hints and advice to help you every step of the way during Stoptober with lots of free support. For example, visit smokefree.nhs.uk if you want to take the addiction test, or to calculate the cost of smoking over a year. Signing up for this new Stoptober app is a great way to get support, but you can also choose to get extra support by selecting the other options. Free Local NHS Stop Smoking Support
When you join you’ll be working with a trained adviser; either in a group or one-to-one. The sessions usually start a couple of weeks before you quit. Your adviser will be able to tell you about nicotine replacement products and other stop smoking medicines, and recommend which product or combination of products could work for you. A carbon monoxide monitor is used to measure your levels of carbon monoxide. This is a great motivational tool because it helps you to see the benefits of giving up smoking. What you should do is first set your stop date. Research shows that the more prepared you are, the more likely you are to succeed. The first thing to do is to choose a stress-free day to stop a few weeks from now. This gives you a day to aim for and time to prepare. Well ahead of your stop date, just before it and after it, the Smokefree Together people will be in touch with help, advice and encouragement. After three months, they’ll offer you advice on how to stay quit. The Smokefree Together Programme is totally free and you can choose how you’d like to be contacted. You can get mail packs containing vital information, tips and encouragement to help you along the way, text alerts at crucial times will keep you motivated, or emails filled with advice and support.
Nicotine Replacement Therapy
There are plenty of Nicotine Replacement Therapy products out there and they can give you the extra support you need to beat the addiction. In fact, like the other licensed stop smoking medicines, used in combination with your local Stop Smoking Service you’re four times more likely to stay quit.
