Seraphine formal dressBeing pregnant is one of the most amazing times of your life. The anticipation for your new arrival keeps you buzzing and excited for ages; it’s better than chocolate.

It can also be a frustrating time, finding that your clothes don’t fit from one day to the next. It doesn’t need to be this way! There are loads of beautiful garments out there for yummy mummies, and I have compiled a guide for the novices out there to keep you looking your best!

Long T-shirts

A bump can make even the nicest tops look tacky when it pushes your clothing up, revealing a stripe of belly. It also makes you cold! T-shirts that are longer or have extra fabric to accommodate your growing tummy are a fabulous investment, and perfect while you’re slimming down after the birth! By my experience, I found it best to get a dress size bigger.

Stores will tell you just to get your normal size, but when you consider that the expected weight gain is around 22-28lb, that is more than just a bump!

Maternity Jeans

Normal jeans just don’t come low enough and can really cut into your bump. There are two styles of maternity jeans: under bump and over bump designs. It all comes down to personal preference. Under bump are good to wear after birth, while over bump keep you warm and can feel like they offer a little support.

Leggings

Stretchy, slimming, and they go with almost everything, whether you put them under a dress, or with a nice long t-shirt or jumper. Available in over-bump designs, which can be very flattering after birth as I found they hold your tummy in a little bit! Don’t just settle for black either: there are loads of fashionable prints available so you can keep up with the latest trends.

Maxi dresses

All the pregnant celebrities love maxi dresses, and seen as a staple in their maternity wardrobe! Nicole Ritchie and Angelina Jolie, to name just a few, loved theirs! Flattering to all shapes and sizes, they hide your lumps without hiding your bump, and are extremely comfortable in warm weather. Pregnant women are warm enough without being wrapped up like an Eskimo.

Formal wear

Being pregnant does not mean you can’t go out! But finding something to wear can be a pain. Thanks to companies like Seraphine UK, you can get some beautiful party dresses and formal wear so you can attend whatever event takes your fancy. If you don’t feel as though you are ‘blooming’, why not get a nice dress and have a meal out with the girls?

Depending on how you plan to feed your newborn, you may want to consider clothes that double up as discreet nursing-wear. Vest tops are ideal, and many come with clip-down fronts so as to make it easy to feed.

Don’t forget to look after your breasts! Invest in some comfortable underwear, but make sure you get measured professionally. It is recommended you get fitted at 8 weeks, then again around the third trimester.

So ladies, go shopping, treat yourself to some lovely new gear, and get out there flaunting your beautiful body! You are only pregnant for nine months, so make the most of it.
