The top innovations from the leading technology show
Ever since it began nearly 90 years ago, the IFA technology fair in Berlin has been where the world’s biggest technology brands have chosen to show off their latest creations.
The IFA, or Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (International Radio Exhibition Berlin), to give it its full name, is one of Germany’s oldest exhibitions. From 1924 to 1939, it was held as an annual event before being held biannually until 2005 when organisers decided once more to up the frequency to once every year.
Today it is one of the biggest trade shows in the world for showcasing consumer electronics and home appliances.
With the 2012 fair now under way, here at Shoppersbase we’re excited about a whole host of new gadgets set to be released. Here, we give you a rundown of some of the best revealed so far.
Sony Xperia T
As Q would be in his element at Berlin’s IFA, we’ll start with Sony’s Xperia T, which is set to feature in the new James Bond film Skyfall. Soon, we’ll be able to get our hands on the smartphone used by Daniel Craig. It will running on the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and has 16GB of onboard memory along with 32GB of microSD storage so there’s lots of room for films, music and photographs.
Samsung Galaxy Note 2
While Samsung has been hit hard in its court battle against Apple, the South Korean giant has come back fighting with its latest innovations. The new generation Note has a 5.5in 1280×720 screen, it comes with 4G capabilities for when Britain gets 4G services, and Android 4.1 Jellybean. Our favourite feature is Popup Web which means you can open a floating web browser window from any link without having to switch to a new screen. If you want to make notes while watching something, you can use Popup Note in the same way.
Asus Vivo Tab and Vivo Tab RT
Known previously by their working titles of the Tablet 810 and Tablet 600, Asus’s two new Windows 8 tablets have now been given their proper names of the Vivo Tab and Vivo Tab RT. Windows 8, which will officially launch on October 26th, will be the new operating system for all new PCs and laptops. Both Vivo tablets come with pretty impressive specifications. The 11.6in slates come with tough Gorilla Glass with 1366×768 resolution. So far, there’s been no announcement on price or launch date but Asus tablets have previously been sold for around £400 upwards and the firm has promised its tablets will be among the “first wave” of Windows 8 devices.
Núúd iPad case
Amazingly, there’s no protector in front of the iPad touchscreen if you use núúd’s new case but the rest of the case is so tightly sealed that you can dunk your iPad in water up to two metres and it’s still fully waterproof. I’m not sure we’d dare to try though. It also protects your device against ice, snow and dust and against drops of up to 1.2 metres. The case is expected to be priced at $159.99 or £100, not cheap but if it protects your iPad2 or third generation iPad it could just be worth it.
The IFA is on until September 5th so we can’t wait for the rest of the innovations it reveals.
