Lana Del Rey Models for H&M
Who amongst us hasn’t got a copy of Video Games in their iPod playlist? And if not, most of us would have heard of the song, and the album it came from – Born to Die, sung in inimitable style by Lana Del Rey. The 26 year old pop songstress may divide opinion when it comes to her music, as she was once slated for her live singing, but there is no doubt as her capabilities as a top model, as these pictures show. Lana, who hails from New York originally, came to fame last year when she uploaded a video of Video Games onto YouTube. From here the single was played repeatedly and she was offered a record deal. Lana has also signed a deal with Next Model Agency so she should be a old hand at this modeling lark! She is the now the face of H&M’s autumn and winter campaign, with these stunning photographs taken by esteemed Dutch photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. The photographs show Lana in our favourites of the new H&M autumn fashion.
In the photographs, Lana wears her hair in a 60′s bouffant style, and her make up is also a retro look, with sexy cat’s eye liner and lashings of mascara. In the photo shoot, Lana is seen wearing several outfits which are sure to be best sellers, and include a gorgeously soft pink angora blend sweater with matching shorts, a pair of colourful printed leggings, a cream peplum top, burgundy velvet heels, a tweed biker jacket and a tweed bodycon faux leather trimmed dress. Lana will also star in H&M’s winter collection, in a campaign that is due to be appear in-store in October. H&M describes the collection modelled by the singer as “modern and feminine with a soft attitude”, whilst H&M’S PR chief, Chloe Bowers, said, “We were looking for a style icon and singer to model our fall collection and Lana Del Rey was the perfect choice.”
The collection is very 60′s Americana, which fits in nicely with the kind of music that Lana loves and sings herself, as she has been described as a ‘gangsta Nancy Sinatra’. The Creative Director of H&M, Donald Schneider, spoke to WWD and said, “The mood is very L.A. Noir. It’s inspired by our fall collection.” He added, “Curves and waist are important in autumn’s silhouette with a focus on knitwear and tweed, the colours include powder tones and accessories in wine red.” Lana, whose real name is Elizabeth Grant, has been welcomed into the fashion world, having now appeared on both the British Vogue magazine, and the Italian version. She has also had a Mulberry bag named after her and has recorded a version of Blue Velvet, which is set to be released on September 19 via the H&M website. Parts of this film will then be the backing tracks on television commercials.
