Victoria Pendleton Reveals Patriotic Red White & Blue Shoes she Designed Herself!
Nine-times world champion Victoria Pendleton has undoubtably had an amazing and eventful Olympic Games, what with a disqualification for a takeover infringement in the team event, her personal keirin gold and just missing out on a gold in the sprint against her long-time Australian rival, Anna Meares. But the Queen of Cycling didn’t let that get her down, as she promptly stepped out in a pair of shoes that made fashionistas do a double take and start searching for them on the internet. They would not have been successful however, as it was revealed that Ms Pendleton had actually designed the red, white and blue pair herself, courtsey of DIY shoewear company ‘Shoes of Prey’. The company had previously been in touch with potential medal winners of the 2012 Olympic Games and asked them if they wanted to create their own pair of shoes. The brand allows you to design your own footwear and tailor everything to your requirements from the heel size to the material to the actual shape.
Ms Pendleton’s pair cost £180 and topped off the patriotic colours with 4″ Oxford heels. The cyclist, who fell in love with her trainer, Scott Gardner, says she is ‘delighted’ with her fancy footwear. She wore her new shoes when she and her date visited the Mayfair haunt Mahiki, having designed the shoes before the Games, she describes them as being ‘definitely very cool’, with her agent confirming that ‘Victoria is CRAZY about her shoes.’ Her agent added, ‘She’s unlikely to get the chance to wear such high heels before the Olympics, but she hopes to have a massive occasion to wear such patriotic shoes this summer.’ Ms Pendlenton is not the only person seeking patriotic coloured shoes, as Shoes of Prey Sales and Marketing Manager, Amanda Wrench said, “We had so many requests for red, white and blue shoes over the jubilee because there simply aren’t any on the high street. So we decided to write to all of the tipped Olympic medal winners and see if they wanted to design their own pair of patriotic heels to wear to events and balls following the games.”
Other athletes who were given the opportunity to design their own shoes from Shoes of Prey included rowers Katherine Grainger & Anna Watkins, who took home gold in the women’s double sculls. And apparently Dame Kelly Holmes wants to design her own pair, with BBC Olympic presenter Sonali Shah tweeting that she is a huge fan. Shah took to Twitter to tell her followers about her love of the new heels, ‘It’s definitely Ladies’ Day – had a quick catch up about love & shoes with Queen Victoria @v_pendleton this morning.’ Shoes of Prey are also a massive hit with the general public, because you can design your own style, many people who have either larger than normal sized feet, or a dificult shape to find shoes for, have been using the shoe company for years. Shoes of Prey was dreamt up by three former Australian lawyers in 2009, who discovered that you could design your own shoes when they were travelling around Asia. They wanted to offer this service themselves, so they set up their own company.
They currently offer millions of design combinations to choose from and a huge variety of luxury materials, which range from soft leather, fish skin, snakeskin, Italian silk and many more. Their types of shoes include ballet flats to 6 inch stilettoes and prices start at £100. Amanda Wrench said, “Being a bespoke service, it’s about fit as much as fashion. Hence, we provide a wide range of sizes from a tiny child’s 13 to a much much larger ladies size 13.5, we can also make one shoe bigger than the other, adjust widths and much more. And if they don’t fit perfectly, we’ll make you a new pair without hesitation. The whole movement towards designing your own shoes is huge.”
