Beyond Diet and Exercise: Benefiting From a Personal Trainer
Somewhere between your busy schedule, the stresses of your daily life and more, the ability to achieve your personal fitness goals through your
own diet and exercise efforts has proved to be nearly impossible. If you are like most, you work out religiously for short periods of time and are entirely focused on eating healthy. Then, however, the responsibilities of your life pick back up, and you have to push your fitness goals to the wayside. Everyone has their own unique challenges with their diet and exercise efforts. Some just can’t get past 8pm without their nightly ritual of a bowl of ice cream. Others are serious procrastinators when it comes to working out. There always seems to be a reason not to strap on those running shoes or stop by the gym on the way home from work.
What Is a Personal Trainer?![]()
You may think that a personal trainer is someone whose services only those with a significant amount of extra spending cash available to them can afford. However, the services of most trainers are actually more affordable than you may think, and some will allow you to bring a friend or spouse along for a discounted rate. A trainer is a professional who typically has incredible coaching skills that are used to motivate and encourage you to meet your fitness goals. More than that, most professionals have extensive knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and nutrition. This person is an expert in the human body, and you can put that knowledge to use to help you achieve your fitness goals.
A Customized Workout
Every person’s body is unique. Some people have special issues, like weak knees or a bad back, that must be catered to during a workout. Some may have recently had a baby, and others may be starting their fitness efforts after spending years as a self-proclaimed couch potato. Further, some people find certain activities like yoga or weight lifting enjoyable while others do not. When you work with a trainer, you will benefit from a workout that is designed specifically for you. These may be workouts that are designed to boost your metabolism, tone up certain areas of your body or help you to achieve other specific goals. However, the workout will also take into account your specific needs, such as that bad back or the fact that you are still nursing an infant.
No Excuses
It is pretty easy to get off track with your fitness and diet efforts when you are not being held accountable to anyone but yourself. Nobody wants to experience that feeling of “falling off the wagon” after eating a calorie-rich dessert one night, but you aren’t reporting to anyone but yourself. It is easy to get off track when your efforts are your own. However, the fact is that when you workout regular with fitness training sessions, you are being held accountable to a professional. It’s easy to skip the gym one evening, but it’s much more difficult to skip a training session when you know your trainer is waiting for you. Further, many trainers will monitor your body mass index and weight. The simple knowledge that someone will be measuring the results of your fitness efforts is often enough to help you turn down the offer to have that calorie-rich dessert at night.
To get the best results from your training efforts, you will want to work with a trainer whose personality is both compatible and motivating to you.
