Gift Ideas for Your In Laws
It’s hard enough shopping for gifts for you own parents and siblings, but when it comes to getting a gift for your in-laws it can be downright intimidating.
You don’t want to get your mother-in-law a perfume that she hates the smell of or your father-in-law a sweater that he stuffs deep in the back of his closet.
Sometimes your spouse can be little to no help telling you that they don’t know what their parents like. It is up to you to find the perfect gift, and with a little ingenuity or by relying on old classics you will be able to give your in-laws the gift that will have them raving for a long time. Below are five gift ideas that your in-laws will be sure to appreciate.
Gourmet food gift baskets
Are classic standby gifts that you can give to any recipient whenever you’re unsure what to get them. The reason they are so popular is because everyone loves receiving a gift basket, particularly when it’s full of food.
There are many different types of gift baskets, but if you’re unsure whether to get your in-laws a specialty gift basket or a themed one then stick to the classic gourmet foods which they will deeply appreciate.
Gourmet food gift baskets can be filled with all types of treats from crackers and sausage to fruits and cheese. This type of basket will bring a smile to their face every time they nibble on cheese and crackers and think of you.
Gift certificates
Are always an easy fall-back plan when you can’t find another gift that will be suitable for your in-laws. However, instead of getting the usual gift cards for their favorite store why not try giving them a gift certificate for a house cleaning or spa visit instead.
Both of these gift certificates are a little more intimate than the normal department store gift cards and they are gifts that anyone would be happy to receive.
Do you know of a favorite restaurant that your in-laws love to visit? Maybe it’s a fancy restaurant where your mother-in-law needs to dress up in her classic pearls.
Or perhaps they truly love the renovated 50s diner where your father-in-law can wear his jeans and not feel out of place. Whichever type of restaurant they like why not give your in-laws the gift of a night out for dinner.
You can give them a gift certificate to cover the cost of the meal or better yet take them out on a double-date with you and your spouse. That will make it enjoyable fun for the entire family.
Picture are some of the most touching and heartfelt gifts you can give to your in-laws. Get creative with this gift. You can either choose an older picture, perhaps one of your mother-in-law pregnant with your spouse, or you can take updated pictures of your family to gift them with. The best part of giving a picture as a gift is choosing the perfect frame to place it in.
If you really want to break out all the stops for a gift for your in-laws then give them a vacation. It doesn’t have to be an international trip; in fact, the best vacation you can give to your in-laws is a few nights at a bed and breakfast that they can drive themselves to.
This way you don’t need to go out of your way to make sure they have passports and vacation time. Instead choose a weekend where you know they don’t have plans and book them a romantic couple’s getaway. It could be just the gift they’ve been waiting for.

October 27, 2012The B&B drive trip is a very nice idea, and not too expensive. You could also combine that with a nice smaller gift basket appropriate for the trip. Add a handmade gift certificate with the trip information into the gift basket for a nice surprise!
