Cosmetic Surgery – Not Just For Girls

Metrosexual – a heterosexual male who takes care and attention in his appearance, usually spending money on beauty products and his lifestyle.

It may be something that you’ve noticed; your husband or partner taking more time in the bathroom than you, or he may be taking more of an interest in your moisturisers and creams. Firstly, don’t panic, it doesn’t mean that he’s slowly becoming a woman! It’s just that more men are becoming heterosexual, and are paying attention to their personal appearance.

One area of beauty that was once seen as the women’s domain was cosmetic surgery, and if you’d have asked any man 10 years ago if they’d be happy to have Botox, you would no doubt have been met with a look of utter disgust. However, over the years there has been a rise in the number of men going under the knife, so if you’re a man that isn’t happy with your look, there is something that can be done!

A recent survey that was released earlier in the year suggested that there has been a 7% increase in men having cosmetic surgery, and of all the procedures that are carried out in the UK, it’s reported that 10% are male patients.

So, what procedures are men opting to have? The following are seen as the most popular:

  • Nose Jobs – The most prominent feature on the face is the nose, so it’s no surprise that men who aren’t happy with their snout are deciding to go under the knife and do something about it; but be warned and have an in-depth conversation about the finishing appearance, otherwise you may end up with a conk like Michael Jackson!
  • Breast Reduction – It may sound odd, but this is one of the most common procedures that men are undergoing; more and more are choosing to get rid of those unsightly moobs so they can truly enjoy the appearance of their body.
  • Botox – A treatment that has seen a rise in popularity in the past few years, with many women having Botox parties, reduces the signs of aging by relaxing muscles on the face. Celebrities including Simon Cowell and British legend Cliff Richard have kept no secret of having this procedure; don’t worry men, it’s not something to be ashamed of!
  • Hair Transplants – A relatively new procedure that hit the headlines when Man United footballer Wayne Rooney tweeted a picture of himself following his hair transplant. It’s synonymous with men, but if the lady in your life is struggling with an ever receding hairline, don’t despair as it can be carried out on women too!

This increase in men having cosmetic surgery just shows the world we are living in at the moment. We have shifted from the traditional views of the male and female, as men across the world are embracing their personal appearance and doing all they can to make sure they always look their best.

Cosmetic surgery is becoming increasingly popular with the male generation, and the next big trend is said to be the Manzilian (that’s right, a Brazilian wax for men!)

So, watch out ladies, as you may have your other half joining you on your next visit to see your beautician!
