How Exercise Can Change Your Life
It is no secret that exercise does a body good. However, there are still plenty of people that aren’t exactly motivated by hearing how their blood
pressure will lower or how their heart will benefit from regular exercise. For all those people that still need a bit more convincing, here are five ways that exercise can literally change your life:
Happy Days
While there are obvious long-term benefits of exercise, there are more immediate benefits that make all the fuss much more worth it. Studies show that just twenty minutes of cardiovascular exercise will cause the brain to release chemicals that promote feelings of happiness. Endorphins are released in the brain after only fifteen to twenty minutes of any type of exercise that causes a person’s heart rate to increase by twenty percent. In addition, the benefits of endorphins lasts all day long.
Dopamine is also released in the brain during exercise. Increased dopamine levels will decrease stress, anxiety and depression. People whom experience high levels of dopamine at any point in the day are also able to sleep better, as suggested by many clinical studies. Adequate sleep each night promotes overall feelings of well-being and decreased stress.
Great Sense of Accomplishment
When you set goals and then accomplish those goals, you can’t help but feel like a successful person. Daily exercise is the easiest way to gain a deep sense of accomplishment. So many aspects of our daily lives are essentially out of our control. We can’t control traffic, weather, other people or the price of gas. We can, however, control ourselves and what we do with our time.
While some people might claim they are happiest when they have nothing to do and no obligations, this is simply not true. Not having goals leads to a life of complacency and boredom. However, setting daily or even weekly goals of accomplishing just twenty minutes of exercise will give you a deep sense of success once those goals are met.
The Looks Department
Let’s not forget the obvious reason why so many people have an extra pep in their gym step. The physical benefits of exercise are enormous and can truly be life-changing. A person can literally change his or her body by regular exercise. Losing weight is an obvious result. However, many people don’t realize the many other less-known physical benefits of exercise such as:
- Sweating will promote a clear complexion.
- Toxins are released through the sweat glands. The release of toxins causes a person to look more youthful and vibrant.
- Increased muscle definition
- Elevated breathing promotes oxygen intake which causes improved circulation. Improved circulation beautifies the skin.
- Natural oils are dispersed from the scalp into the hair shaft which makes hair stronger and supple.
The One Thing You’ll Never Regret Doing
As you go through your day, there may be things you wish you didn’t do. Exercising will never be one of those things you regret later. You will never look back after a half hour walk and wish you hadn’t bothered. Exercise is truly one of life’s guiltless pleasures. Jump on the fitness bandwagon and start changing your life today.
