The Facts About Cellulite
All women and men, regardless of their size, can get cellulite! Most people think that a weight fluctuation is the biggest culprit of cellulite occurring, but not everyone who goes through a weight fluctuation get’s it. That’s because there are other factors at play.
What is Cellulite?
Cellulite occurs when there is an accumulation of fat under the skin. The uneven appearance is because of the thicker fat cells, toxins, and fluids that occur. Normally it occurs on the thighs, abdomen, and buttocks.
Causes of Cellulite
Genetics – Some women are more prone to cellulite because of genetics. This explains why some women who are extremely fit and never been pregnant still have cellulite! If your Mother and your Grandmother have cellulite, then chances are you will also.
Hormones – Females are more prone to getting cellulite and it is thought that female hormones may be the reason. Cellulite normally occurs after puberty, due to the hormonal connection, and estrogen, thyroid hormones, and insulin are all linked to the occurrence of cellulite. Women taking oral contraceptives may be prone to cellulite because of this hormone connection.
Diet – Pretty much all food deemed unhealthy for us is also connected to cellulite. Alcohol, refined sugars, and caffeine all cause toxins to build up in the body and have been linked to cellulite. Processed foods and food high in fat, sugar, and salt are also contributors to fat and cellulite.
Exercise – Less active people are more prone to gaining cellulite. They tend to carry more fat in their body, which is a cause of cellulite.
How To Get Rid of Cellulite
Lifestyle Changes- Eat healthier, organic food and eliminate the processed, high fat, high sugar, and fried food. Some claim the fresh parsley is beneficial as it is a good detoxifier and diuretic. Make exercise a daily habit and focus on building muscle and eliminating fat. Drink lots of water to help eliminate toxins from your body. Stop smoking or other unhealthy habits that contribute to the toxins in your body.
Massage – Research has shown that by getting regular massage done in problem areas, you can stimulate the fat underneath the skin and smooth out the appearance. The massage also improves circulation, eliminate toxins, and drain accumulated fluid.
Creams – There are many creams on the market that claim they can help to eliminate cellulite. Whether this works or not seems to be dependent on the person. There are many people who claim it has worked wonders for their cellulite, and there are others who saw no improvement.
Liposuction – Fat is taken from underneath the skin with a vacuum like instrument. And many people believe that it will help to eliminate cellulite. But there have been occasions where liposuction has made the skin look worse after the procedure by sagging and rippling due to the fat being removed from underneath the skin. The truth is fat and toxins can accumulate again after the liposuction and cause more cellulite to appear. It is not a long-term solution.
While cellulite can be embarrassing to some, it helps to remember that many women and men are prone to cellulite, not just because of lifestyle, but because of genetics and hormones as well. By maintaining a healthy lifestyle, you will be doing the best you can to help reduce or eliminate cellulite for good.
