Why an At-Home Spa?
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and – if you are as forgetful as I – then it is quite likely that you have left organising something special for the lady in your life until the very last-minute. Unfortunately, this means that many hotels, restaurants and spa resorts will already be fully booked.
The fact that Valentine’s Day also falls on a Tuesday (a working week day…groan!) this year means that it is quite probable that neither of you even have enough time to celebrate the event together outside of your home environment. That’s not to say that you can’t do something special for her though – in addition to cooking your missus a delectable meal, I suggest you prepare her an at-home spa in your bathroom.
Set The Scene – Not Just The Bath!
Before you begin to even think about preparing the bathroom for the special occasion you need to consider the rest of your home. Your lady is hardly going to be able to relax in a house that is messy, even if the bathroom is spotless! Getting rid of the children for the duration of the evening is important also – hearing the kids fight from the bathtub or being bugged for bedtime stories is hardly going to aid your romantic efforts!
Some men might like to dim the lighting throughout the house in order to create an amorous atmosphere but I think it is far more surprising to keep everything looking as normal as possible (apart from the non-vacuumed carpets and high pile of dirty dishes in the sink!) This means that when you lead your love to the bathroom she will be especially astounded by what greets her.
Think about the timing of your at-home spa gift too; dinner followed by a bath will likely make your partner tired and this could interfere with the (likely desired) bedroom action later. A superior idea is to lead your wife or girlfriend to the bathroom when she gets home from work and cook the meal whilst she unwinds.
Spa Accessories for the Bathroom
Your bathtub might not have built-in bubble jets but this does not mean that the other elements of spa days cannot be comprised into your bathroom. Littering the space with scented candles (or a combination of regular candles and a selection of incense sticks), sprinkling the water with – arguably cheesy – rose petals and including a pile of neatly folded, fresh towels for her to dry off with are small touches that are sure to be highly appreciated.
Buying your partner a new, luxury bath robe (and maybe some slippers too) is also a fantastic idea. Your missus is sure to appreciate this gesture far more than receiving yet another teddy bear holding a heart or other Valentine’s Day novelty.
Be sure to clear the bathroom of dirt and clutter also. You should place all of your/your family’s own bathing products away and out of sight – the bathroom should be a place for your better half alone on this special day. If you bathroom’s decor has been in need of a revamp for a while you could (and should!) give the room a lick of paint ahead of February 14th. Trying to relax amongst paint-chipped walls is hardly ideal!
Pamper Her with…a Bath Pamper!
Making the bathroom look absolutely wonderful is a pointless endeavour if the love of your life does not boast a fantastic variety of beauty/bathing products to indulge with.
Pre-packaged Valentine’s beauty pampers are available to buy from many high street shops but it is far more thoughtful to put one together yourself if you happen to know which brands and products she prefers. Feel free to include a few items she has never used before also – women love experimenting with new products
