What Went On at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week 2012

The Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week has arrived and from the 23rd to the 26th January 2012 all eyes will be on the latest trends as the most beautiful creations will be on show for spring/summer 2012. The big news this season is the return of Versace on the catwalk. Noticeably absent from the Haute Couture shows since 2004, the Milanese designer reveals his summer collections in this week in Paris. And at Dior, everyone’s talking about who’ll become the new creative director. With major names like Dior, Stella McCartney, Galliano, Gaultier and Chanel and Hermès,Paris Fashion Week is a total fashionistas dream. Complete with A list front rowers, style bloggers and fashion royalty in abundance, this years Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week looks set to be another vintage year. We’ve picked our best of the designers already but see what you think:

Giorgio Armani

Armani had amongst his collection many sharp square waist level jackets with peplum skirts in neutral pale colours. The skirts featured a twist section at the side which gave an extra dimension and much of the fabric had texture and shine. Some jackets were collarless whilst others had oversized collars. And check out the twizzle head-gear! Not sure if that will take off but quite a demure collection from Giorgio.

Chanel

This gorgeous collection is typical Chanel with few surprises. Cute jackets lend themselves to soft skirt combos in Chanels iconic texturised fabric. We loved the off the shoulder jacket look although definitely not practical for this weather but the muted colours are a welcome change from the brights of last year. All in all we think this is Chanels best collection yet.

Christian Dior

Dior are going through some changes at the moment and it shows in this collection. Not content to stick to one trend or style, they’ve decided to throw in a couple to tempt the media and us fashionistas. From an almost preppy throw back look with fitted skirts in stripes and checks, to a Monroe inspired ’60s era in which full skirts take centre stage from a wrap around bust. An odd collection but it works.

Basil Soda

Basil has gone all dreamy and romantic on us and we don’t mind one bit! These full length gown with corsetted busts would look fantastic on the likes of Nicole Kidman so expect to see them on the red carpet at the next award ceremony. Silhouetting a womans figure perfectly yet managing to still drape beautifully, the pale colours will not suit all and it will take a brave soul to wear the grey.

Alexandre Vauthier

The most ethereal of our choices now, the wonderful Vauthier sets the stage alight with this collection of nymphs, beautifully cast against the bright lights of the catwalk. In pale pastels of sheer silk and satin, the dreamy creations flow from the models bodies but are contrasted by the metallic neck gear. Looking almost Indian in their guise, I love the trouser and dress combos the best and certainly would not wear the knickers dress outdoors!
